10. Season 4 Episode 5: Intercourse

After an incredibly awkward Skype conversation wherein Sheldon first meets Amy's mother and intercourse is discussed a lot €“ "I assure you, I am quite real and I'm having regular intercourse with your daughter" - Sheldon turns to Amy and says "I find myself wondering if we should actually engage in coitus at least one time in our relationship" and then "bazinga" at Amy's confused look. A lot has happened between Sheldon and Amy in the two seasons since then, but this is the first moment when we realise how perfectly suited they are for each other in both their social awkwardness and their mutual disinterest in an intimate relationship. Of course, two years is a long time, and we now know that Amy is missing something physical that Sheldon isn't giving her; this gives the scene a slightly sad feel on a re-watch, but it is still initially hilarious. The scene is perfectly topped off by Sheldon announcing it's bed time and Amy letting herself out without protestation; for a such a strange on screen couple, their relationship offers some solid laughs (at least, it still did at this early stage anyway €“ later on, some of the jokes become more repetitive and contrived).
