Black Mirror: Ranking Every Episode From Worst To Best
1. San Junipero
Black Mirror has earned a reputation for having devastating or gutting plot twists, which meant that as San Junipero's love story went on everyone was waiting for the gut punch. And waiting, and waiting. The genius of this episode, though, is that it managed to subvert our expectations but without betraying what Black Mirror 'is'.
Taking place in California in 1987, we find party loving Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and introverted Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis) meeting and gradually falling in love, while everything else conspires to keep them apart.
Making full use of the bigger budget that came with the move to Netflix, San Junipero is dripping with style, its soundtrack and visuals combining to service up a classic slice of the American Dream, but with a technological spin that perfectly complements the story. Led by stunning performances from its two leads, it's the kind of story that both warms your heart and tugs at its strings, and whereas most Black Mirror episodes speak to the power of technology, this one speaks to the power of love.
