Black Mirror: Ranking Every Episode From Worst To Best

4. Be Right Back

Black Mirror Season 3 Nosedive Bryce Dallas Howard 1
Channel Four

Agent Carter's Hayley Atwell and The Force Awakens' Domhall Gleeson give terrific performances in this disturbing meditation on grief that is one of the most mature episodes the show has yet produced. This could well be because it focusses on a very human and personal scenario rather than a grand, world-changing idea.

After a woman loses her husband, she signs up to an experimental service that creates a CleverBot-type messenger service based on a deceased person's social media interactions. Effectively bringing him back from the dead.

There are further twists in this tale, but we'll only say that things get distinctly unsettling as the story takes a turn towards Frankenstein territory by way of the Uncanny Valley. We all would do anything to have our loved ones returned to us but, as this episode’s escalating plot eerily demonstrates, you can’t defy death.
