The macabre nature of fixating on unsettling, yet pivotal arcs for its many, many fragile characters is something that BoJack Horseman as a series is wholeheartedly committed to right from the get go. They unraveled one character in particular, revealing her to be a vulnerable, mistreated creature before they ultimately destroyed her.

After working relentlessly in the shadows of the males around her and simultaneously being undermined by those who received everything effortlessly, Gina finally catches her big break, working alongside BoJack on a new, well-anticipated show called Philbert. This leads to an intimate relationship with her co-star, initially blossoming as they look like they may be the missing pieces of one another’s puzzles until BoJack loses control and unrelentingly disgraces himself, nearly erasing her from existence entirely.

As BoJack gives into a drug fuelled psychosis and becomes unhinged as he assaults the young starlet, unapologetically strangling the poor girl with seriously adverse effects on her mental wellbeing, cursing her to attain PTSD shortly after the horrific event. In her painful attempt at reprieval, she sweeps the truth under the rug and tries to continue her professional life but the strain becomes too much and before long no one will enlist her services at all.
