5. Angela (S6E14)
After Todd and Jorge worked together in Chicago to try and get his kidney to his sick mother, she still didn’t try and reach out to her son. Even when he and Maude were round for dinner with her husband, she didn’t show her face.
She was ashamed that ten years after kicking him out onto the street with nothing but the clothes on his back, he saved her life. Jorge wished she could do the same for him, so Todd engaged in a classic shenanigan in which he hired Margo Martindale to fake kidnap him.
The stress on Todd’s mom ultimately caused her an anxiety attack, but when she was in the hospital, she and Todd spoke for the first time in years. She apologised for kicking him out, explaining that she did it because she wanted him to grow up, and he told her that her plan worked.
They shared a genuinely touching moment, as she tried to help him with one of his trademark wacky Todd ideas, and though there was clearly much work to do in terms of mending their relationship, this was a start. Todd had long outgrown the need for a mom, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t want one.
