Breaking Bad: 10 Best Musical Moments

9. Jesse And Jane's Night In - The Platters, 'Enchanted'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri0cifENxm0 Jesse's turn to heroin was one of the darkest moments of the character's development up until that point. It felt so wrong for Jane to be going back to drugs, and we really feared for Jesse; Aaron Paul's terrified look as he had his arm prepared for the needle set up the scene perfectly. The moment when Jesse floats towards the ceiling on his high is an iconic one in the show though, and the music used in the background is incredibly suitable. 'Enchanted' is a 1959 croon from the Platters, and sounds more suited to the school party in Back to the Future than a show about meth; the otherworldliness of the song creates a dream-like perfection though. It's airy, ethereal and the dense backing vocals give the scene a sleepy sweetness. It really does feel like Jesse's drifting off into another realm. 'Enchanted' is perfect for the scene, because it sounds like the backing for a idyllic dream sequence; Jane's assertion to Jesse that she'll "Meet him there" only reinforces this. It's a beautiful song, and amazing that it still sounds as good fifty years after it was released.
