Breaking Bad: 10 Worst Things Jesse Pinkman Has Ever Done
8. Blackmailing His Parents
Jesse’s family background is an intriguing part of his character, one seldom given too much attention. He comes from upper middle class stock, and has a prodigious younger brother from whom great things are expected. From the little we see of Jesse at home it’s clear he doesn’t, and never did, fit into these WASPish surroundings.
Accordingly, his parents aren’t too thrilled with how the prodigal son turned out. They chase him from the family home when he takes the bullet for his little brother upon the discovery of a joint, and when the meth lab is discovered in his aunt’s house, he’s booted from there too.
Jesse gets revenge by blackmailing them into selling him the house at a knockdown rate via Saul, using their failure to disclose the property’s illegal usage as ammo. It’s tough to feel too sorry for the pair, but looking at it from their point of view, they’re right - Jesse shouldn’t have been cooking up crystal in a property they owned.
Jesse evidently has no qualms about burning these bridges, and there could well be more to the enmity than we get to see. This is certainly a guaranteed way to get off the Christmas card list.
