Breaking Bad: 9 Poor Story Choices

4. No One Is Given A Decent Ending

Walt probably dies at the end of Breaking Bad, but he is the only character whose ultimate fate we are certain of (to an extent, at least). The rest €“ Jesse, Skyler, Walt Jr., Saul and Marie €“ can only be guessed at. The last we see of Jesse he is driving deranged from his incarceration; Skyler is last seen allowing Walt one final moment with Holly (because, you know, she actually remembered she had a daughter for once); Walt Jr. walks into the safe house; Saul goes into hiding; and Marie phones Skyler. It€™s likely that Skyler et al benefitted from the Schwartz €œtrust fund€ later in their life, but in the present the viewer€™s aren€™t given any form of satisfying resolution to their beloved characters. Better Call Saul, the spinoff from Breaking Bad scheduled to premiere next year, will feature a flexible timeline to show the past, present and future, so Saul€™s ultimate end will likely be detailed. The rest of the characters however have been confirmed to not appear, so it is up to the viewer€™s to decide on their own ending for these characters unfortunately. Most endings can be excused however. But Jesse€™s can€™t. He and Walter were the main characters of Breaking Bad and as such Jesse deserved a much better ending than he received. The viewers had invested so much time into his character and they were left with a terrible ending. Whilst most finales utilise a cheesy flashfoward, even just a throwaway line would have worked here.
