1. Hank Finally Figures It Out (Season Five, Episode Eight)
How could it be anything else, right? Without question the most important moment in Breaking Bads history since Walts diagnosis. Since his decision to enter the meth business the question in everyones mind was, How is he going to get away with this? A brother-in-law in the DEA is a definite hindrance to ones plans to manufacture and distribute meth, but even worse? Hank is really good at what he does. For five and a half seasons tensions fluctuated between Hank not having a clue, and coming dangerously close to catching the mysterious Heisenberg. Then all of a sudden its over. Skyler shows Walt that gigantic pile of money, finally convinces him to quit, and moves back in with the kids. Walt is reminded of why he started all of this in the first place, gets a degree of closure, and retires Heisenberg. Hes out, or as out as someone who just became a key player to a major multi-national crime and drug syndicate can get. All things considered, the bullets dodged, the murder attempts evaded, Walt came out of all of this relatively unharmed. After all of the chaos is over, and the smoke has cleared, then it happens. Walt, in either an uncharacteristic blunder or a very characteristic moment of arrogance, leaves the biggest clue connecting him to the blue meth out in the open in the bathroom for anyone to read. Thats exactly what happens as Hank picks up Walt Whitmans Leaves of Grass and reads the note written in the front. Finally connecting all the dots between W.W. and G.B., and realizing that it has been his brother-in-law that he's been chasing the entire time.
