Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode
7. Melvin Stermley
In season five, with Jake and Amy’s relationship in full swing, the two embark on what will be Santiago’s last case before her promotion to Sergeant. Peralta picks an arson case with connections to the Saturday crossword puzzle, and he even manages to bring in legendary quiz master Melvin Stermley.
The man who Jake assumes is a giant nerd, is actually a mega hunk who models swimwear on the side, immediately making the detective jealous of Amy’s admiration for him. Melvin himself, or ‘Vin’, makes Jake feel worse at every turn just by being himself.
Typically wearing just a tank top underneath his coat, he runs hot like a wolf, and used to date Anna Kournikova. Jake was even told by a puzzler that Vin makes every other man seem really stupid and ugly. The entire episode sees Peralta attempt to compete with Vin, who by all accounts is a much better match for Amy than he is.
The thing that makes Melvin’s appearance so much better is that the character is portrayed by Melissa Fumero’s real life husband, David.
