Meeting members of the Santiago family is always a delight. As the people related to Amy, you know they're going to be some funky characters. Her brother David is no exception; in fact, there's a clear reason why he's called "The Golden Child".
David is introduced as Amy's sibling rival, an incredibly successful police officer who outshines her at every corner. Naturally, to outdo Amy, you need to be perfect, and that's how David is presented. He's almost impossibly perfect, which makes his presence a massive source of conflict for Amy and hilarity for the audience.
He only appears in one episode but makes a big splash as the narrative centres entirely around him clearing his name and the behaviour of the Santiago family, praising one child and belittling another.
Plus, it has to be said that getting Lin-Manuel Miranda for this part was a massive deal, as his star power helped to make the character feel all the more golden.
