Captain Raymond Holt is the heart and soul of the series. While there are many fan-favourite characters, you would struggle to find anyone who doesn't consider Holt to be one of the top pieces of the Nine-Nine puzzle. Despite this, there is a dangling storyline that hasn't found its ending yet, and it's critical for the show to finally finish it off before the loveable comedy is gone for good.

The struggle to see Captain Raymond Holt become Commissioner was a major part of the story for such a long time, but after he failed to capture the position, it was put on the backburner. Instead, the show chose to focus on Holt's war against Commissioner Kelly and others, and talks of his ambitions to become Commissioner slowed down.

This is a story that has been several seasons in the making, and not seeing him become Commissioner would be an absolute anti-climax. It would be a perfect way to end the series, as the beginning of the show was Holt joining the Nine-Nine, and thus him leaving to become the head of the NYPD would make for a great bookend to bring the narrative full circle.

There's no doubt that the show's ending will cause some waterworks, and seeing Holt finally achieve his dream would make even the stoutest of fans shed a tear.
