In the world of Greendale Community College, Abed Nadir was one of the standout students. Alongside the rest of his study group, Abed did his best to navigate daily life at one of the strangest places on Earth. It's honestly surprising that there didn't turn out to be a Hellmouth below Greendale that Buffy the Vampire Slayer needed to close.

While it's never explicitly discussed, it's heavily implied that Abed was somewhere on the Autism spectrum which made it incredibly difficult for him to relate to people. He convinced himself that he was the reason his parents split up when it was actually because of cultural differences between his Palestinian father and Polish American mother.

Abed frequently retreated into his own imagination to deal with the world, his best way of comprehending it. Captain Holt cannot relate to that. Abed might be able to help him access his imagination while Holt could become the father figure Abed needed. If nothing else, watching the two of them interact would be incredible.
