Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Every Season 7 Episode Ranked Worst To Best
12. Ep. 4: The Jimmy Jab Games II
The Jimmy Jab Games were first introduced way back in the third episode of Season Two and are a classic part of the Nine Nine mythos. It's hard to believe then that, unlike their annual cousin the Halloween Heist, the games didn't return until this episode.
The inclusion of the games here isn't just a simple nostalgia trip though, as they actually do tie into Jake's character arc. WIth Terry and Amy leaving for a work conference, Terry surprisingly leaves Jake in charge. He explains that he trusts Jake, who isn't the same irresponsible person he once was, which leads Jake to have a bit of an identity crisis. So it's in an attempt to prove his "class clown/bad boy with a heart of gold" status that the games open. It's pretty funny to watch Jake's attempted rebellion backfire, with Terry even recording the games' opening ceremony to be used as a teaching tool for other precincts.
This episode is all about Jake's conflict between his past and present selves, drawing attention to just how much he has grown over the preceding six seasons. For instance, he makes a reckless bet with Hitchcock, but we later discover that he did it for the good of his and Amy's future family.
It's an important episode that highlights just how much Jake has grown, plus it's always nice to see the squad just having fun and doing crazy stuff. And then there's that unexpected cliffhanger with Debbie that leaves the audience reeling...
