Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Every Season 7 Episode Ranked Worst To Best
11. Ep. 1: Manhunter
Kicking off the season, this delightful episode offers a fun and entertaining case for the Nine Nine, while also exploring the fallout from the previous season's finale. That's right, Captain Holt has been demoted to patrolman for a year, with the squad struggling to get used to the new dynamic.
Jake finds it especially difficult to treat his former captain as a subordinate, just as Holt finds it hard to accept his new position. Watching Jake struggle to deal with being constantly undermined and upstaged by Holt is hilarious, especially given that the case in question - a manhunt for an attempted assassin - has Jake giddy with excitement. After seeing Jake and Holt develop a mutual respect for one another over six seasons, it's interesting to see them trying to adjust to their new power dynamic.
It's also fun to watch Holt deal with his new partner, the perky Debbie Fogle who fully embraces the life of a uniformed officer. While Holt tries to be actively involved in the case, Debbie is perfectly happy working crowd control and is elated when put on "cone duty". Not only is it another fun dynamic, but Debbie becomes a significant character in future episodes.
To top it all off, we have Amy's pregnancy scare which results in her and Jake actually beginning their journey to conceive, setting up an important arc for the season. It's a great start to the season, which sets up much of what is to come.
