Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One
1. Spike
Was there ever any doubt? Spike was always going to top the list. This blond-haired vampire swaggered into Sunnydale back in Season Two, and fans across the world instantly fell in love with him.
Oddly enough, Joss Whedon was surprised by this response, and this is understandable. For most of Season Two, Spike cares little for the living and does his utmost to cause havoc with the help of Drusilla and Angelus.
But despite his villainy, it's impossible not to love Spike's natural charm and charisma. James Marsters was born to play this role. He nails every aspect of his character's arc, which is really saying something given Spike's personal journey is larger than anyone else's.
Though he starts out as a villain, he starts to change in Seasons Four and Five. He develops a genuine affection for the Scooby Gang. And this becomes even more apparent in Season Six when he starts a romantic relationship with Buffy.
Spike's backstory is also fascinating. We learn about his past in 'Fool For Love' and 'Lies My Parents Told Me', and both these episodes are huge standouts in their respective seasons.
Many consider Spike to be the best character in the Buffyverse, and he more than deserves this prestigious title.
