Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Funniest Episodes
4. The Zeppo (Season 3, Episode 13)
Aside from always being on hand to deliver quippy one-liners, bicker/smooch with Cordelia and occasionally rescue his friends, Xander's role within The Scooby Gang had always been something that was hard to classify.
He lacked the supernatural knowledge, magical prowess or brute strength of his companions, which often saw him taking the back seat in the major battles against evil, and 'The Zeppo' is an episode that sends that up in spectacular fashion, with Xander being politely asked to bow out of the battle against a legion of apocalypse-hungry witches for fear of his safety.
Not one to betray his "cool" exterior, Xander ends up on his own bizarre adventure with a cohort of undead high-schoolers who want nothing more than to spread a little chaos. All the while we see very brief snippets of Buffy and co engaged in a truly epic confrontation that sees the Hellmouth re-opened.
Chock full of brilliant comedic beats and boasting of a great examination of Xander's role within both the show and the group, 'The Zeppo' is the kind of episode that can be enjoyed several times over for its bevvy of hilarious moments and fun subversions of the show's pre-established formula.
