Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Most Hated Episodes
7. Flooded
Season six was tough. It involved some of the darkest themes in Buffy history and sometimes it got a little lost in these ideas. While season four struggled to find its footing with the shift in tone, season six dug into full-on darkness and knew the road it wanted to take. In Flooded, Buffy's basement is flooded and she has to step up and deal with the struggles of being an adult, realising that real-life isn't fun at all.
She goes to the bank to see about getting a loan and ends up fighting a demon that tries to rob the place. While the demon becomes a pivotal part of the plot and even introduces us to arguably the worst Big Bad (The Trio), the episode is mired in themes of adulthood and "life is hard," a theme which weighs heavily on the entire season.
Buffy begins to accept her responsibility as a homeowner and guardian to Dawn. This is a legitimate route to go down but it feels very heavy, and as mentioned before, it doesn't lighten up as the series progresses. Even the musical episode is pretty depressing under the glossy surface, and the whiplash in change of tone again, left audiences unsatisfied.
