Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Most Hated Episodes

2. Superstar

Season four, like season six, made a lot of questionable choices and Superstar is one of the most hated of them. It saw the return of Jonathan, a nerdy underdog whose only personality trait is that he feels invisible.

In response to his feeling like an outcast he has cast a spell to turn him into a popular James Bond-esque hero. Everyone wants to be him or be with him in this alternate reality that he has created for himself.

Superstar focussed on this weird world that Jonathan created for himself. Like most of the episodes on this list, it was a pointless filler story that frustrated fans. Without it, the season could have progressed nicely, and perhaps even given more time to more deserving character development or more interesting events.

Jonathan's return felt forced. He had been a staple of the Slayer's life throughout her High School years, but he should have stayed in High School. Fair enough, Sunnydale is a smallish town and paths might cross, but there was no need to bring him back here...let alone for such a dull story.

Finally, how dare Jonathan waltz in and take Buffy's place as leader, especially at a time when the show was losing itself more by the minute.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
