10. Spike's Sacrifice
From sign-killing vampire villain to Buffy's soulful lover, Spike had perhaps the most transformative character arc of anyone on the show. The best example of this is his brave sacrifice for the greater good in Chosen, which brings the story of his redemption to an explosive end.
There is also a tender portion to the scene, though. As Spike finally becomes the hero, Buffy tells him the words he has been desperate to hear: "I love you." "No you don't," he replies. "But thanks for saying it."
It says a lot about Spike's popularity and success that it is him, not Buffy, who ultimately saves the world.
