Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Major Relationship Ranked Worst To Best

2. Buffy & Spike

Put those pitchforks away and hear me out: Spike was better for Buffy than Angel, even if it took a long time for it to become clear.

The reasons for this are simple: First, Spike was able to love Buffy without a soul, something Angelus could never do; second, Spike was willing to fight for his soul to win her over and be the man she wanted him to be; and finally, whilst Buffy and Angel were great together, theirs was a more naïve relationship.

Of course, Buffy and Spike had their flaws, what with Buffy using him to combat the trauma of being resurrected, and Spike attempting to assault her, but once season six was out of the way and Spike had come to terms with having a soul again, they connected in deeper, more personal ways than she and Angel ever did.

Simply put, Angel was perfect for Buffy when she was a young woman coming to grips with the world, but Spike was the perfect match for the woman she became, and for that reason Spuffy has to win the timeless Spike vs Angel debate.
