Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Major Relationship Ranked Worst To Best

3. Buffy & Angel

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Riley
Mutant Enemy

Buffy and Angel's relationship was the backbone of the show's first three seasons, and continued to play a major role in the rest of the series (and its spin-off).

Though initially sceptical about Angel's allegiances, Buffy was soon won over by his mysterious, brooding allure and selflessness, despite his vampiric nature and sordid past. Their relationship was incredibly romantic and caring, but of course hit a major snag when Angel lost his soul and became his old, evil self.

At the end of season two, Buffy was forced to kill Angel, knowing they couldn't be together, but when he miraculously returned in the next season, they started up again and for a while seemed to be stronger than ever.

Their reunion was short-lived, however, with Angel realising their relationship couldn't possibly last long-term, leaving for Los Angeles to escape her. Angel was the first love to end all first loves, and once he was gone it took them both a painfully long time to get over each other.
