Casting Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot

12. Sasha Lane - Tara Maclay

Buffy Sean
A24

Tara Maclay is one of those characters who seems simple on the surface, but on closer inspection it becomes clear just how multi-layered and compelling a person she really is.

At once shy, timid, intelligent and sweet, Tara is also a powerful witch who falls in love with fellow wicca Willow in one of the show's most sweet and tragic storylines. In the original show, she was played with charm and maturity by the underrated Amber Benson.

Enter Sasha Lane. Best known for her debut role as Star in the drama American Honey (where she starred opposite Shia LaBeouf), Lane showed right from her very first performance to be a mature and passionate performer. In American Honey, Star is disillusioned, timid, and scared - attributes Lane could easily twist around to fit the role of fan favourite Tara.

Also, with her dramatic chops as good as they were in American Honey, you wouldn't have to worry about whether she could sell hers and Willow's fractured relationship arc - she'd own it.
