Castlevania Final Season Review: 6 Ups And 3 Downs

3. Up: Character Arcs

Castlevania Alucard Trevor Sypha Season 4
Netflix

Trevor Belmont may be the main protagonist of Castlevania but it is still fundamentally an ensemble show and it is treated as such to the end. Everyone in this season, no matter how minor and brief, is given a clear trajectory and distinct beats that shape who they are.

From individuals making their debut this season to characters that have been around from the start, everyone is given time and attention on the way to their conclusions.

Carmella's radicalisation, Isaac's shifting worldview, Alucard's sense of identity, all are given the room they need to grow and develop. Even Saint Germain, who has a slightly more contrived arc, has the ingredients that justify each of his actions and changes.

No one is left behind as Castlevania does its best to wrap everyone's arcs up in a satisfying way and aside from a few minor exceptions, all involved have a finish that the audience will enjoy.

With so many characters and storylines, it is an impressive feat to get so many of them right.
