The Charlie Sheen/Chuck Lorre Debacle: How It Ended For Everyone

Chuck Lorre And Two And A Half Men

38 Chuck Lorre probably wouldn't even notice if Two And A Half Men disappeared. Currently, the man and his team of writers are working on their seventh season of The Big Bang Theory, their fourth season of Mike & Molly and are about a third of the way into their first season of the new show Mom, all the while spewing out the descent into the terrain of terror that is Two And A Half Men 2.0. I don't usually have a problem with the title not accurately describing the show anymore (Cougar Town, anyone?), but boy does this title not fit anymore. First off, the "half man" is a grown adult now who is in the army and, as of season 11, isn't even a main character anymore. Secondly, the two men are not that manly when it comes down to it (which is in relation to the theme song, admittedly). I suppose "Two Men" might be similar to "2 Broke Girls", which is just as bad in terms of quality. Thirdly and finally, Jenny, the new main character miraculously replacing both the Charlie and Jake characters at the same time, is not a man. Unless you consider a lesbian "pretty much the same thing", in which case you are probably dumb enough to continue to watch the show for it's quality. The question is, will Chuck Lorre's poor treatment of New And A Half Men (which I just made up and will now start calling it for the rest of my life) have any effect on Lorre's other shows? The answer, is no. One of Big Bang Theory's most recent episodes passed the 20 million viewer mark, while Mike & Molly seems to be doing about as well as usual, and Mom is getting decent ratings anyway, so what difference does it make to Chuck? None. Lorre came out of this with a dent in his career caused by New And A Half Men (don't tell me it's not catchy), but has three other critically adequate shows on the air too, so he really had nothing to lose on this front, which might account for the seriously lackluster jokes as of late (I hate to drive that point into the ground, but come one, there's only been one good storyline in the past three seasons and that was dropped after four episodes and didn't even involve the characters being themselves).
