Community: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments

6. History 101 - The Entire Episode

Community TV Show
NBC

It's never a good sign when the showrunner - who also happens to be the creator of the entire concept and series - is permanently removed from their own product, but no one could've seen such a heinous fall from grace materialising so quickly.

In all honesty, this might be the quickest drop in quality in television history, as History 101, the first episode of the "gas leak year" is abysmal, not just when compared to the rest of the season, but just as content in general.

The signs of worry for what would be an awful season of television were all incorporated into this one episode.

First of all, the episode is a Hunger Games parody, which was an all too easy target for parody within the zeitgeist at the time. What's more offensive though, (other than the exceptionally dated gay jokes which are at best frivolous, but are leaned on like a crutch for cheap laughs at worst) is the sheer monotony of watching this episode.

The entire thing from start to finish just makes the viewer want to stand at their nearest window and ponder what it is that they've just wasted 21 minutes experiencing. It's just a melancholy affair which predominantly spelt the end of Community and confirmed that the people spearheading it hadn't a single clue what they were doing.
