Community: 10 Reasons Why Season 5 Is MASSIVELY Underrated

6. The One-Shot Episodes Are Superb

Community's side-adventure episodes might be some of the best the show ever did. Episodes that deviated away from their classes, and just let the characters run wild always served for better stories and in season five the meter is dialled up to the max.

With an episode focusing on the Ass-Crack Bandit prankster done in the style of an eerie David Fincher film, one based around a caste-system that paid homage to a dystopian 80s sci-fi thriller, and of course a second Dungeons & Dragons episode - which this time included Dean Pelton and Chang as bigger characters - Season 5 was filled to the brim with genuinely brilliant concepts.

One of the real standout in season five was a completely animated episode where all the principal and supporting cast are drawn up into classic G.I Joe characters. The creativity in this episode is through the roof, as every character has hilarious G.I. Joe analogue names and character traits that are both funny and poignant.

The claymation, musical, paintball and alternate timeline episodes of Community will always be classics, and we can count these one-off adventures in there too. Season five reminded fans that while some of the original characters had left, the meta spirit of the show was still alive.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
