Underwhelming? Pointless? Box-ticking?

Say what you want about Elroy Patashnik as a character, but it's extremely hard to deny that he lacks the charisma of the actor that portrays him, which itself may sound almost redundant, but Keith David deserved better than this.

In the same vein as Chevy Chase and Donald Glover upon leaving the show for good, Yvette Nicole-Brown followed suit. As harsh as it sounds, unlike the former two, Shirley didn't leave much of a hole when she left after the first episode of season 6, and it was almost instantaneous how quickly they replaced her too.

Mimicking the shows now trademark method of replacing a study group member when one leaves, they brought in Elroy; a jaded, middle-aged man who adds nothing to the group and serves no purpose in any of the stories. The way he leaves the show is just as unceremonious too. When the characters around him ask if he'll be back, he very unassuredly says "maybe" - indicating full well that he is definitely not returning to Greendale any time soon.

This was intentional from the writers, but knowing that knowledge makes it feel like a gargantuan middle finger, and simply reinforces the fact that Elroy, who had maybe one or two moments that barely anyone can recall, was just unnecessary from start to finish.
