Say what you will about the "Gas Leak Year", but there's no denying that Paranormal Parentage is one of the best holiday specials in the series. The final Halloween special saw the study group pay homage to Scooby Doo as Pierce finds himself locked inside his haunted mansion.

Feeling lonely after the death of his father, Hawthorne Wipes' one true heir tricked the group into visiting him instead of going to the annual school party. Only Jeff realises it's a ploy, giving him an excuse to complain the entire time (as if he wasn't going to anyway). The rest of the group are genuinely worried and agree to help Pierce find the code to let him out of the panic room.

As the gang roam the terrifying mansion, they run into a series of terrifying events that lead them to one conclusion. Pierce wasn't lying. His house is genuinely haunted and unsafe. He eventually lets everyone in on the prank, but the prank turns to real fear as Abed finds a shadowy figure that watches over Pierce while he sleeps. Thankfully, a return appearance from Giancarlo Esposito clears everything up as he reveals he had been secretly working as his brother's servant.

Oh, and the less said about Pierce's secret dogs, the better.
