Community: The 10 Most Hated Episodes
6. Basic RV Repair And Palmistry (Season 6, Episode 10)
Any time Community employs a gimmick in an episode, it can be very hit or miss. An episode set entirely inside an 8-bit video game? Hit. An episode that has a plot centring around driving a giant hand to a mysterious buyer, for some reason, and an extremely convoluted flashback subplot? A resounding miss.
The Save Greendale Committee, the season six replacement for the study group, are travelling in Elroy’s RV to sell a giant hand that Dean Pelton accidentally ordered off of the Internet when the RV breaks down. And then they just sort of…sit around for the rest of the episode while Abed keeps attempting to “flashback” to an earlier point in time with varying degrees of success and humour.
It’s the sort of meta commentary that the show has done far better in its previous seasons and usually with a much more satisfying emotional payoff. This feels far too much like season four, like someone attempting to capture the Dan Harmon meta essence and falling flat on their face.
Except this time, it’s Harmon himself who’s to blame for this damp squib.
