Community: The 10 Most Hated Episodes

5. Basic Sandwich (Season 5, Episode 13)

Community DeSalvo Matt Berry
Sony Pictures Television

The fifth season of Community is a mixed bag to say the least. Episodes in the earlier half of the season like Cooperative Polygraphy and Geothermal Escapism are stone cold classics. But once beloved character Troy Barnes departs in episode five, the season quickly declines in quality and eventually lands at the disappointment that is Basic Sandwich.

Again, this is a finale that might have worked in a previous season. The first ever Dean of Greendale sealing himself under the college with a sentient computer and the gang going on a quest to find him and save Greendale from the evil clutches of the Subway corporation? The resulting thirty minutes should be chock full of wacky hijinks and instantly quotable one-liners.

But none of the jokes land, the characters are acting like exaggerated versions of who they used to be and the washed-out colour palette that plagued all of season five's cinematography does the episode no favours.

There was a time when this could have been the last ever episode of Community. Thank your lucky stars that it wasn’t.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
