9. Pierce And Gilbert: Brothers

YahooYahooPierce Hawthorne is a racist, oblivious, immature and misogynistic curmudgeon. That being said, Pierce's faults lie more on his ignorance than malice or any real prejudices, but his unwillingness to learn or adapt has caused him decades of loneliness. So when Pierce is given the chance to win his father's inheritance - in a video game built by the late Cornelius Hawthorne himself - he blocked by Cornelius's long suffering man-servant Gilbert Lawson, who revealed he was actually Pierce's half-brother and also heir to the Hawthorne fortune. At first the study group rallied behind Pierce to topple Gilbert and win the inheritance for Pierce, only to fail miserably thanks to Gilbert's access to cheat codes. But when Gilbert reaches the end and is given a choice - the fortune in exchange for silence regarding his true parentage or nothing - Gilbert lashes out and reveals that what he really wanted wasn't the fortune, but his father's respect. Having a similar relationship with Cornelius, Pierce forfeits victory to Gilbert and chooses to embrace his newly discovered brother as family. For a guy that is basically intolerance incarnate, Pierce's joyous reaction to realising he had a brother is something that will make you grab your heart in joy. Key Line: "Get in there, and kill our dad." - Pierce Hawthorne
