Constantine: 17 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See

5. Opening Pandora€™s Box

The other most controversial Easter egg in the show appeared in the trailers, too, with many assuming that the red-eyed green skull glimpsed in a glass case was the unfortunate severed head of the aforementioned Alec Holland. It turns out that Swamp Thing hasn't been killed off off-screen, since the item in question is in fact Pandora's Box. Like the mythical Pandora's Box, which released all the badness into the world because women shouldn't pry into these things. History is pretty misogynistic, guys. The Box is a more recent addition to the DC universe in the comics, appearing at the centre of the Trinity War crossover event, which pulled in pretty much every superhero and villain the company publishes. Which might be a bit beyond the scope of Constantine, but it's a cool little shout out to eagle-eyed fans, and Hellblazer was definitely involved in the events - in his guise as a member of Justice League Dark, a team of supernatural heroes who battle the more metaphysical forces of evil.
