Constantine: 17 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See
4. What's The Deal With Jasper Winters?
So who is this Jasper Winters guy anyway? His presence haunts the entire plot of Constantine's opening episode, and yet he doesn't ever actually appear (the bit with the mirror so doesn't count). His absence is a great influence over the proceedings, what with his abandonment of daughter Liv at a young age set her on the path to discovering some magical mumbo jumbo in her lineage and all. The few hints teased out across the first hour suggest that he was friends with John back in the day, he was part of a rock band, and he had a knack for seeking out trouble. Well, that seems to suggest that he might have been part of John's punk band back in the day - which also suggests he might have been part of the Newcastle thing but a more interesting theory is that he's actually Baron Winters, who originally appeared in Marv Wolfmans mystical superhero team book Night Force. Like Jasper, the Baron lives in a house full of magical doo-dads, and is pretty much confined to it; considering Liv and her family appear to have disappeared after this first episode, perhaps we'll never know.
