Constantine: 17 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See

2. Comic Book Covers

The biggest (and certainly the most obvious) call back to the Hellblazer comics that gave birth to Constantine comes in the epilogue, once all the dust has settled. Liv has been freed of any demonic problems, and then runs off to stay with family somewhere less plagued with ghosts than Atlanta, Georgia; John is coaxed back out from the bottom of a bottle by Chas, ready to do battle with the forces of evil once again; and then, asking rhetorically who'd find him a hero, we see drawings. Lots of drawings. Somebody is obsessively scrawling portraits of John Constantine, and it looks like a different deranged artist than the one sharing a room with him at Ravenscar. No, this one's of a different sort, and is apparently learning from the best: amongst the sketches strewn throughout her room are some classic covers from the Hellblazer comic book series, including drawings of John done by iconic artists like Lee Bermejo and Tim Bradstreet. A nice Easter egg, and hopefully a sign the series will continue to pull from the mature Vertigo series and not the disappointing DC reboot.
