Constantine: 17 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See
11. Ritchie Simpson, Techno Wizard
Another of Constantine's mates who appeared in the pilot is slightly less stoked about spending time with him. In fact when Ritchie Simpson realises who just walked into his office he first demands that he leave, then suggests that he will leave and let John stay in the room - just so long as he can get as far away from him as possible. It's implied in the episode that Ritchie was also present for the whole Newcastle debacle, and has since been similarly mentally scarred by the experience. That doesn't stop him from using his computer wizardry to keep tabs on supernatural occurrences around the world, however. In the comics his antagonism towards Constantine is less to do with Astra, and more to do with said computers. John was dismissive of his blending of magic and technology, right up until the point he needed Ritchie's help tracking down a batsh*t insane Christian cult; which is right about where it went wrong for Mr Simpson, who tripped a trap after delving into a dodgy network and got fried to a crisp. His consciousness lived on digitally, however, and he became demonic after an encounter with this Negral chap. Then he got dragged to Hell, as all of John's friend do eventually.
