Curb Your Enthusiasm: 10 Worst Things Larry David Ever Did

7. 'Jokingly' Makes White Supremacist Remarks In Front Of A Black Person

There are some things you just don’t joke about. Like about having a bomb when you’re going through airport security or about death in front of a grieving family member. After watching Season 1 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, you could add ‘never joke about being against affirmative action in front of a black doctor’, because it seems Larry David never thought of this.

When on a walk with his comedian friend Richard Lewis, the couple run into Lewis’ Black doctor. This being the year 2000 in the US, where affirmative action (the practise of increasing opportunities specifically for people who have been historically discriminated against) is still a controversial issue, the comment Larry David makes next is not well received by the doctor:

“Really - you have a black doctor, even with the whole affirmative action thing?”, David “jokes” to Lewis, (the implication being that that doctor will have gotten to where he is not on merit, but simply because of the colour of his skin).

The ‘no-filter’ feature of the Larry David personality once again becomes his downfall, as he stains his reputation, this time with racism.
