Daredevil: 10 Marvel Heroes That Must Be Adapted For TV Next
3. The Punisher
Kevin Feige may have claimed that Marvel will never go "dark", and Joss Whedon may have declared his hatred of the character, but it's hard to believe they couldn't make some use of Frank Castle. A military veteran seeking vengeance for his murdered family, Castle's tactics include kidnapping, torture and, occasionally, outright murder. In a world of family-friendly heroes, he makes Jack Bauer look liberal by comparison: in his first outing he attempted to take out Spider-Man, then wanted for the death of Norman Osborne. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWpK0wsnitc He's been played by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, and Ray Stevenson, but none of their features managed to strike the right tone. Only Adi Shankar's short also starring Jane comes close to capturing the wry, understated humor necessary to offset the brutality. The Punisher can weller veer off into '70s revenge thriller to '80s cheeseball territory, but something like an AMC series might well be the vehicle to strike the balance between light and dark. Tom Hardy might get his chance yet.
