8. Mister Fear
With the Kingpin behind bars, there are a number of people who can step up to try and fill the void, including Mister Fear.
In the comics, Larry Cranston was a classmate of Matt Murdock’s and was even his boss for a time. With his expertise in hand-to-hand combat and armed with chemicals that can influence people and instil fear (or in one case, make them psychotically unafraid of anything, even death), Cranston became Mister Fear.
Cranston could tie in with Matt and Foggy’s past, both as law students and also during their internship period at the law firm. Most of the firm’s top people ended up implicated by the end of the season, and Cranston could be among them, which would lead to a desire to seek vengeance on his old friends.
In the comics, Cranston frequently employed the Enforcers to do his dirty work. This would be a great place to introduce both the team and Mister Fear as trying to get revenge on Matt while also working to take control of the underworld in Fisk’s absence.
Pitting the Man Without Fear against Mister Fear would make for a great story opportunity, particularly if the producers found a way to adapt Ed Brubaker’s excellent “Without Fear” story-arc.
