5. White Tiger
Marvel has had a few different characters take on the mantle of the White Tiger. One of the White Tigers was a man named Hector Ayala, who was not only Marvel’s first Hispanic superhero but also the first Puerto Rican superhero in comics history.
Powered by mystic amulets, the White Tiger was granted enhanced speed, strength, agility, and the skills and expertise of a master martial artist. One of the best stories to come out of Brian Michael Bendis’ acclaimed run on Daredevil was “Out,” a story that saw Matt Murdock’s identity exposed to the public. While trying to deny the story, Matt also had to defend Hector in a murder trial.
The White Tiger’s amulets are from K’un Lun, which was implied to be the far off land that Gao came from. In a recent interview, actor Charlie Cox said he would love to see the series adapt the story of the White Tiger’s trial.
Although the trial in the comics ends disastrously for Hector, his niece, FBI agent Angela del Toro, inherits his amulets and takes up the White Tiger mantle herself. The story of Hector’s trial and then the rise of his niece as his successor could make for a great TV show and lead to a potential spin-of later on down the line.
