It's rare for a TV show or movie to elicit as much sympathy for its villain as it does for its hero. Daredevil managed this feat; it wasn't just easy to understand and maybe even sympathise with Wilson Fisk's motives, DeKnight and Goddard went so far as to make the character someone you didn't actually want to lose. The issue with the show now is that Fisk has been vanquished, locked behind bars after being taken down by Murdock & Nelson. As these things usually go, it'll likely be on to the next villain for Daredevil, with the last one perhaps cropping up in a cameo or smaller supporting role somewhere down the line - but it would be a huge mistake for Daredevil to take this approach. The Daredevil writers might come up with another great villain for season 2, one audiences can again learn to empathise with, but Fisk was unique, his story paralleling Matt Murdock's in a way that enriched season 1. Losing Fisk as an integral part of the show now could off-set the balance enormously - in so many ways, Fisk and actor Vincent D'Onofrio were as much a reason for season 1's success as Matt Murdock/Charlie Cox. What other issues need fixing - if any - to make season 2 of Daredevil better than season 1? Let us know in the comments below.
