Daredevil: 10 Punisher Storylines For Season 2

4. Punisher MAX

For decades, the mainstream comic industry was constrained by something called the Comics Code Authority €“ to get the sort of widespread distribution that got comics on newsstands as well as in speciality stores, publishers had to adhere to a lot of strict rules that regulated the amount of swearing, violence and black people allowed in a comic. If you didn't meet those standards, the comics would be censored or else rejected. In the early noughties, Marvel realised they didn't need the CCA's approval any more, and started up the MAX publishing line which told stories that were strictly for adults. Which meant Nick Fury ordering scores of sex workers to his room and cursing a lot, mainly. But it also meant Frank Castle was no longer constrained to the strangely bloodless world of regular Marvel, and Garth Ennis wrote sixty-plus issues where The Punisher barely interacted with superheroes, instead dispensing ultra-violent vigilante justice. Hey, that sounds a lot like the first season of Netflix's Daredevil series!
