Daredevil: 10 Reasons Jon Bernthal Is Perfect For The Punisher

9. He's Reading The Right Source Material

Whilst the casting news was officially announced by Marvel Studios themselves, Bernthal took to Twitter to celebrate landing the role in his own inimitable fashion. Imitating Ben McKenzie's stack of graphic novel homework when he was cast in Gotham, Bernthal tweeted out an image of him reading a Punisher book with his dog. Not just any Punisher comic, though. Specifically, he was having a flick through Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's €œWelcome Back, Frank€, a twelve-issue limited series published in the early noughties and widely regarded as being the book that revitalised and redefined Frank Castle for the 21st century. If that's the sort of source material Bernthal is going to be working from for his Daredevil role, then he's got the right idea €“ and fans have reason to be excited. This Punisher was the same tortured Vietnam vet, albeit one who was alternately at odds and partnered with the local police during his violent vigilante antics. Sounds about right for the Netflix series.
