Deadwood: Ranking 15 Cast Members Worst To Best

14. Alma Garret

Deadwood HBO
HBO

Alma was the closest thing to a female lead the show had. After her husband is killed on the orders of Al Swearengen, Alma inherits his recently purchased land that is rich with gold. Land that practically everyone will attempt to buy from her.

Alma had to act steely and in control as various men approached her concerning the land and watching her gain confidence and swatting them away with ease was thoroughly entertaining. Where she faltered however, was her questionable behaviour and jealous nature concerning Seth Bullock and his wife.

After having an affair with Seth Bullock in the first season, Martha Bullock arrives in Deadwood in season 2 and the pair mutually agree the affair should stop. Despite that, Alma proceeded to be bitter and cold towards both Seth and his wife which was frustrating to watch.

Her relationship with the orphaned Sofia was sweet for the most part, except for when Alma decides she'd rather lean into drug use. Drug addicts aren't inherently bad characters, but it made Alma rather irritating to watch at times, especially since we know how awesome she could be when she was defending what was hers.
