Deadwood: Ranking 15 Cast Members Worst To Best
11. Dan Dority
We all need a friend like Dan. Fiercely loyal, supportive, sensitive and of course, he'll kill anyone that's bothering you. Dan Dority was Al Swearengen's right-hand man and main muscle. He may not have been the smartest man in the camp but he'll always have Al's back.
One of the first things we see Dan do is the brutal murder of Alma's husband Brom. It's surprising to think how likable Dan would become after such a heinous act of violence. Dan wanted to be better than what he was; he didn't want to give into his anger and rage and be a terrible person. We constantly saw him battle with his demons on this issue and it makes for a compelling watch.
Dan's relationship with Al and the rest of the Gem saloon also made him a more enjoyable character as we see first hand his dedication to his friends and colleagues. Dan's lack of ambition allowed him to be Al's most trusted ally in the whole camp.
Dan also has the privilege of being a part of the best fight in the whole show against Hearst's man Captain Turner. A fight that proved to be... a rather eye-popping affair.
