Dexter: 10 Most Hated Episodes Of All Time

3. "Goodbye Miami" - Season 8, Episode 10

Deep into the eighth season, Dexter creators tried to balance the tired serial killer tropes while throwing nonsense at the wall in the name of ratings. Sadly, it was a big swing and miss during "Goodbye Miami."

Even though Oliver Saxon developed as a villain, he didn't carry the same gravitas as the previous bad guys. Debra labeled him the "perfect psychopath," but he was far from the most apathetic and ingenious foe Dexter encountered. Worse off, the plotline gave little reason for him to be special. People died at the surgeon's hands, yet why did Dexter feel the need to be involved? He mentioned being concerned about the innocent lives that could've been taken, but he already witnessed numerous unguilty folks die at this point in the series. For example, Maria LaGuerta's only crime was that she wanted to expose him.

In addition to Dexter's dull plight, many other characters were watered down and placed in meaningless situations. Dr Evelyn Vogel started as a threatening mastermind, and her brain ended up being her own worst enemy. The romantic stuff with Jamie Batista and Joey Quinn dragged on, only to turn back into a story of Deb's feelings because every episode needed to explore her tormented soul.

"Goodbye Miami" gave fans little to no reason to tune in for episode 11. Instead, it further complicated the last season of the show in ways that longtime watchers doubted would be resolved by the finale.
