6. Was Dexter's True Nature Ever Revealed?
Over the years, Dexter's colleagues suspected there was something odd about him, and he came under suspicion a number of times as a result. While the serial killer frequently found clever way to frame others for his crimes and divert attention from himself, never was his true nature more on display than in that divisive series finale.
After learning that Debra won't recover from being shot, Dexter stabs her killer in his jail cell with a pen. While Angel and Quinn questioned him about what happened - and are quite clearly suspicious - they ultimately decide he must have acted in self-defence.
In the years that followed, however, it's entirely possible the truth about Dexter emerged. The technology used by the police has improved greatly, while someone surely realised that he took his sister off life support and headed off to sea with her...that's not exactly normal behaviour!
While Dexter is believed dead, someone could have easily taken a closer look at him and discovered something disturbing. Just look at how many dead killers remain the subject of documentaries and investigations; even if that's not the case, Dexter's return will lead to some big questions!
