Dexter: 10 Unresolved Plot Threads The Revival Must Address

4. Will The Dark Passenger Return?

Dexter Hannah McKay
Showtime

The show's producer has hinted that Dexter's Dark Passenger is still very much part of him, but it surely can't have been dormant all this time, right? While the series never explored that concept as thoroughly as the novels, it became an integral part of the show and greatly influenced the serial killer's actions and those he chose to target.

If Dexter has somehow managed to live a "normal" life for the past eight or nine years, then something could happen which triggers his Dark Passenger and sets him back on the path of killing.

It's hard to imagine that ending with anything other than his death or capture, but there will be those who (understandably) hope he manages to get his happy ending with Hannah and Harrison. An argument could be made that Dexter doesn't deserve that, of course, and his Dark Passenger might just end up sealing his fate.

If this revival wants to get really weird, it could follow the aforementioned books by revealing that it's a true entity unto itself and possibly an offspring of the ancient god Moloch. Is a supernatural final season jumping the shark, though?
