Dexter Season 8: 5 Reasons It's Been Disappointing So Far

3. No Big Bad

dexter hall lithgow Dexter has had many great adversaries throughout his killing career. The Ice Truck, Doomsday and Trinity killers all spring to mind, whilst in other seasons he had had somebody hot on his case, namely Doakes in season two and LaGuerata in season four. The worst seasons of Dexter have always been the ones where Dexter has adopted some sort of side-kick and the episodes have focused on this as opposed to any sort of foe or problem. Season three and season five were both very problematic for these reasons in particular. In the third year we were lumbered with Migeul Prado who was nothing more than a nuisance, whilst in season five Dexter had to deal with a love interest, Luman. These two overshadowed the villains (a tree cutter and Jonny Lee Miller) and thus made the seasons very forgettable. Season eight has so far fallen into this category. We were teased over the first few episodes about a potential killer €˜the brain surgeon€™ looked as though he could be a worthy advisory who turned out to be a former patient of Vogel€™s with some mommy issues and a foot fetish. This brings up a number of issues, notably being that Yates (the suspect) didn€™t match the MO of the brain surgeon in the slightest; however no-one seemed to care and it was all wrapped up quite nicely. Hopefully it turns out Vogel is the brain surgeon or that is in fact someone else, however with half the season gone I€™m losing faith.
