2. Too Many New Characters
Going back to the aforementioned seasons three and five, another big problem was that all the characters were disposed of by the end of the season, making them instantly forgettable. With only one season left to play out the focus should be on Dexter and the characters we already know but instead we are being treated to a whole host of new characters, none of whom are remotely interesting. With only 12 episodes to bring the show to a climax does Dexter really need a new love interest? Quite frankly, he doesnt, its not only an unnecessary distraction for him, but also for us as an audience. Giving Masuka a daughter could have been a nice little way for him to end the show happy but instead shes been given a fair amount of TV time in the last two episodes and also been given a predictable story-line about wanting to discover her illegitimate father for money. Introducing us to new characters so late in the show is a very risky move and one that hasnt payed off so far this season.
